Newborn Photography
Newborn photography sessions are quite different from your average family session, so they deserve a bit of special attention here (well don’t newborns always deserve special attention?).
- Newborns are best photographed within the first ten days of life, and no later than two weeks of age. This is the critical time for achieving those peaceful, curled up, soundly sleeping, beautiful images. The sooner we can work pictures in once you arrive home with your new bundle of joy, the better!
- Hands down, the best location for newborn photography is in your own home. Having a new baby can turn your world upside down, so the last thing you’ll want to worry about is getting everyone showered, dressed, and out the door on time for a newborn photo session. I always conduct newborn sessions in the family’s home, where both mom, dad, and baby are most comfortable. I can set up my portable ‘studio’ for newborns just about anywhere, though we may have to move a piece of furniture or two.
- A warm baby = a happy baby! By “warm,” I mean we as adults should feel quite comfortable, even a bit toasty, in a sleeveless shirt and shorts. Newborns, after all, are used to a constant 98.6! I will bring a space heater and a warming pad to keep your baby nice and warm, but I may also ask for you to turn up the heat in your home about an hour before the session is about to start.
